Abstract
The purpose of this short paper is to provide motivation for the further theoretical development of system and control theory for a class of systems termed degenerative systems - systems that eventually terminate, cease to exist, or self-destruct. Following some practical motivation - to the effect that such systems are actually of industrial interest, a brief overview of some relevant existing system concepts is provided, and then some open questions are posed.
