Abstract
An efficient braking scheme for a PM synchronous motor with a diode rectifier front end is presented. The stator windings act as a braking resistor and dissipate the regenerated power without any additional electronic control circuits. The control algorithm maximizes the power losses in the stator windings and it enables the braking operation at high braking torque under the dc link capacitor voltage and inverter current limit conditions.
