Abstract
In this paper, the authors present a new structure of permanent magnet in-wheel motor. This structure named transverse Vernier hybrid reluctance motor presents the interest to provide a high torque by minimizing the magnet weight for a given rated power in comparison with classical surface mounted permanent magnet machines. In a first part, the authors present shortly the particular electromagnetic structure, the working principle and the design methodology. In a second part, the results of both electromagnetic and thermal 2D and 3D FEM simulations are detailed. Finally a comparison with a classical PM machine is presented.
