Abstract
This paper discusses quadrature modulator design for W-CDMA applications in CMOS technology. First, receiver topologies were discussed briefly with emphasis on direct conversion and application of quadrature modulator in transmitter. Description of Gilbert cell with mathematical analysis of its operating principle was presented. Next, design of building blocks of modulator was covered including selection of the best topologies for direct quadrature modulator in view of RFIC design trade-off of power consumption and circuit complexity. Lastly, simulation results were presented with comparison with other commercial modulators and results from recent researches.
