  • Abstract
The standard procedure to make PQ:PMMA samples with high optical quality is presented here. We add 0.7 wt.% of PQ (Phenanthrenequinone) and 1 wt.% of AIBN (Azobisisobutyronitrile) into the solvent MMA (Methyl methacrylate) to form the MMA solution. From our investigation, we found that the key that affects the material quality is the time of the second stir. During this period, the viscosity of the solution is increasing. In this paper, the Ubbelohde capillary is used to measure the relative viscosity of the MMA solution. The capillary set up which contains the solution or the solvent MMA solution is put in a water bath at 30 °C. In a linear approximation, the falling time is proportional to the viscosity of the liquid, which is in turn linearly proportional to its density.
