Abstract :
This article proposed a method for modeling the human spine by 3-D Bezier curves. This simplified 3-D spine model is based on the bi-planar spinal radiographic images taken from both the coronal plane and sagittal plane. By using these two orthogonal spinal radiographic images, the 3-D Bezier curves are fitted on the center of the spinal cord both in coronal plane and sagittal plane images. The purposes of modeling the simplified 3-D human spinal cord are to further analyze and classify the scoliosis spinal deformity, plan and simulate the spinal deformity correction and predict the surgery outcome. There are three sets of initial spinal ranges defined interactively to represent the cervical spine, thoracic spine, lumbar spine as well as all together for deformity analysis.
