This paper addresses and expounds on the previous paper at the National Academy of Science\´s Ocean Study Board on applicable legal regulation of ocean energy systems. Currently, ocean energy systems are subject to disparate regulation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Corps of Engineers and Department of Interior has proposed legislation to take jurisdiction. This paper gives an overview of these systems. This paper also gives developers some background on FERC\´s system for selling power into the system, a discussion of distributed generation opportunities and laws encouraging DG and also discussion of the renewable portfolios standard.
