Abstract
This paper describes a network architecture for personal and multimedia services in networks on the move. Using the example of an aircraft, the convergence of different network infrastructures with GSM/UMTS as mobile networks and WLAN and Bluetooth as wireless data networks is shown. The protocols of the access networks are mapped to IETF Internet protocols to transport the services over satellite networks to a ground provider infrastructure. The paper provides a description of the architecture and protocols and gives message sequence charts for some selected protocols. Finally, QoS support is discussed.
