Abstract
This paper proposes a novel channel estimation algorithm for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system based on comb-type of coded clusters of pilots. It is not only able to estimate the channel response due to immediate subcarriers, but also the amount of inter-carrier-interference (ICI) from other subcarriers. The algorithm is suitable for OFDM system in very fast time varying channel, where ICI is significant. The criteria for selecting the optimum coded pilot sequence for each of the cluster is also presented. The mean square error (MSE) of the estimate using the proposed algorithm is also derived. The simulation results clearly show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional channel estimation algorithm.
