Abstract
Nowadays, microprocessor loads impose the strictest requirements in low voltage applications, in terms of voltage regulation, current consumption and dynamics. Due to this fact, new structures of voltage regulator modules (VRMs) for high-current low-voltage applications are being studied. This paper presents a multiphase VRM based on the symmetrical half-bridge converter with the primary windings in series while the secondary windings are in parallel as an interleaved structure. This paper shows the design considerations as well as experimental results of a VRM with 3 phases evaluated on a 48 V/1.5 V, 60 A laboratory prototype.
