Abstract
A long-pulse Nd:YAG laser is used to produce high densities of O/sub 2/(a/sup 1//spl Delta//sub g/) in liquid oxygen. Optical absorption, oxygen excitation and partial energy disposal into heating results in the production of an atmosphere of gas phase O/sub 2/(a/sup 1//spl Delta//sub g/).
