Abstract
This paper describes the evolution of the original air supply units as oil-lubricated piston compressors to the new range of Knorr-Bremse oil-less piston compressors. These compressors provide reliable, cost-effective, operation in a railway environment. The design features of the oil-free piston compressor are described and the operational advantages over conventional oil-lubricated reciprocating compressors are highlighted.
