Abstract
The use of a continuous modal parameter estimation technique is demonstrated for the purpose of verifying a dynamic system model. By using simulated signals containing small-signal oscillations in place of real power system measurements, the consistency of the estimations with underlying system parameters are shown. It is noted that the choice of measurement location is important for reasons of mode observability. The use of mode shape estimation is also demonstrated, and the estimated mode shape is shown to be consistent with the model expectation. It is concluded that the modal parameter estimator performs well for modes of practical significance, and is suitable for verifying dynamic system models.
