  • Abstract
This paper describe the various aspects of photovoltaic R&D in Mongolia and presents about major activities undertaken so far in deploying photovoltaic systems in the country. Prospects for future activities have been also outlined. This paper is organized into two main parts. In the first part, the current status and government policy for R&D of PV in Mongolia is described. The main result of several pilot and commercial projects are presented in relation to the development of advanced type stand-alone system PV and hybrid PV/wind/diesel system, the establishment of local PV module production, and dissemination of SHS for the electrification of nomadic livestock herders. In the second part, the Mongolian government strategy for the development of new and long term PV projects are discussed, including Mongolian government initiative to develop large scale PV power generation system in Gobi desert in Mongolia.
