Abstract
Sending reference pulses without carrying information makes Transmit Reference Ultra Wideband (TR-UWB) systems inefficient. The proposed Reference Sharing technique saves 62.96% of the energy that the equivalent TR approach with the same bit error rate consumes. The use of RS-doublets shows that a maximum of power can be saved by adjusting the reference pulse amplitude to achieve the same level of bit error probability. The overall noise power and the receiver complexity has to be increased to demodulate the information borne in the RS-doublet train.
