Abstract :
Dual-polarized antennas with high level of isolation are required for high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications. This paper describes how quarter-wave transformers can be used not only to match the antenna input ports but also to get a high isolation between them (less than -30 dB). Therefore, using commercial software packages, an airborne L-band (1.2 to 1.3 GHz) SAR antenna was designed and analyzed based on this technique. A prototype was manufactured which presented good agreement between its measurements and the CAD predictions.
