  • Abstract
A design methodology for active planar receiver antennas is described, based on the co-optimization of the antenna part, using a full-wave electromagnetic simulator, and of the active receiver circuit, using a circuit simulator. Both local, gradient-based optimizers and global optimization techniques, such as genetic algorithms, can be used in the process. A three-stage design strategy is adopted to limit the total required CPU-time. By way of example, the formalism is applied to the design of an active planar rectangular ring antenna operating from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz.
