Abstract
Recent progress in wireless technology for mobile computing, such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth, has lead to the requirement for the size of an antenna to be smaller and smaller. At the same time, frequency bandwidth for wireless communication is being expanded from 800 MHz up to 10 GHz, including new UWB (ultrawideband) technology. An antenna intended for use in such devices needs to cover a very wide frequency band in a very small size. A newly designed dual band coupled floating element antenna is proposed and its gain and VSWR performance, in the wireless LAN (801.11a/b/g) bands and up to 8 GHz, are presented.
