Abstract
It has long been recognized that lattices allow for a generalization of many of the concepts of a fuzzy set. It is possible to generalize lattices to sets with an arbitrary relation if this relation has certain properties. While these properties induce a lattice they also point to an alternate mechanism to axiomatize fuzzy set theory. These axioms produce a simpler mathematical foundation for fuzzy set theory research.
