Abstract
The paper provides a limited overview of topics that form part of the domain of nanophotonics. Attention is focused, in particular, on photonic crystal structures that deliver enhanced emitted light levels at short optical wavelengths, on the resonance quality factors of planar microcavities, frequency control and tuning of photonic crystal structures, and on the use of coupled microcavities in the synthesis of more complex filter responses.
