Abstract
We consider the standard (point-wise) linear channel model for MIMO wireless systems in terms of a continuous operator channel. We show analytically that the point-wise representation overestimates the (true) modal connection strengths and produces artificially distorted channel singular values. Analytic results are compared with simulations for simple channel models and the convergence of the point-wise model toward the continuous model is shown.
