Abstract
We characterize the linear RLC networks for which passivity is preserved even if we take as port variables (v/sub s/, d/dt i/sub s/) and/or (d/dt v/sub s/, i/sub s/) instead of the classical variables (v/sub s/, i/sub s/) representing the external port voltage and current, respectively. This characterization is given in terms of an order relationship between the average electric and magnetic energies stored in the circuit. We apply this result to the problem of power shaping stabilization, a methodology recently proposed as an alternative to the more standard energy-shaping technique.
