Abstract
This paper deals with development and analysis of airborne radar to detect remotely snper-cooled water in clouds for warning aircraft icing. Conditions of aircraft icing are described briefly, the scattering on the ensemble of hydrometeors of different nature is analyzed, and polarization observables for hazardous and nonhazardous cases are estimated and compared with data. On this basis, polarimetric radar method is developed, and signal processing algorithm is synthesized. The effectiveness of the technique is researched. The results are promising for expanding functions of airborne weather radar.
