Abstract
NORA (Not Only Radar) is a program that has as goal to supply the next generation microwave sensor system to the JAS 39 GRIPEN aircraft. The system will have multiple functions based on the use and exploitation of microwaves, such as for radar, passive emitter search, communication and RF jamming. The program has multiple phases, where the NORA 111 is a demonstration following an initial study phase and a project definitiou phase. The Nora program shall demonstrate the potential of AESA-based radar for combat aircraft radars, secure competence and technology supply and create alternatives for the acquisition of next generation radar for the JAS39 Gripen aircraft. The selection of Active Antenna for the demonstrator was made with criteria as: international cooperation, cost, time and program success with the common interest of air force and industry. Raytheon was selected as supplier of the AESA for the demonstrator. The other subsystems have been developed in-house.
