Abstract :
AMS has designed a new Multilateration system whose first installations are planned to take place in Rome Fiumicino and Milano Malpensa airports. The most important design aspects are related to a) Overall system architecture and Synchronization of the different stations; b) Algorithms to measure the Time Of Arrival (TOA) of the repliedsquitters (as referenced to the clock of each measurement station); e) Algorithms to estimate the target position in 3D by four or more TOA measurements; d) Design and simulation tool development to verify each specific installation performance. The paper mainly treats the overall system architecture and its functionallties while the experimental results for the measurement stations and test bed will he presented during the conference and the algorithmic part is described in more details in a companion paper by Tor Vergata University, which supported ATMAS in the receiver station TOA estimation algorithm and clock offset compensation.
