Abstract :
We propose a novel scheduling approach for packet based wireless systems. Our approach is aiming at enabling user-individual QoS management, while exploiting channel fluctuations. We assume that each user is characterized by a set of QoS requirements as his/her flow is accepted into the system. We first introduce a generalized measure, the residual time, for the urgency of the next packet to send of each flow in the system. The residual time is derived from the transmission history and the current packet data queue of each flow, with respect to the flow specific QoS requirements. Based on this urgency measure, a scheduling approach is outlined, which makes it possible to tune the tradeoff between overall throughput optimization and compliance with QoS requirements in an adaptive manner, depending on current flow urgency levels and the current cell load.
