Abstract
This paper proposes a novel MIMO system consisting of three orthogonal polarization diversity branches. We developed a patch antenna having three orthogonally polarized antenna ports for MIMO systems. Each port of the new antenna works independently in a multipath-rich environment and is equivalent to a 3×3 MIMO system but using only one antenna element in both transmitter and receiver sides. This method is expected to make the antenna portion of MIMO systems smarter and more compact. And having polarization diversity adds a new dimension to the MIMO system for further study.
