Abstract
We propose an analytical model for differentiated service in a wireless mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) with a Rayleigh-fading channel. The system is modelled using a multidimensional Markov chain to support real-time applications. It is also used to demonstrate that various types of data arrival process can be modeled by a Markov modulated arrival process (MMAP). Numerical analyses are drawn to estimate the packet drop probability, effective throughput and packet queuing delay. We validate the scheme by simulation under different link utilizations using the IEEE 802.11b DCF ad hoc model. Analytical and simulation results are compared to determine the accuracy of the presented methods. Both show that better quality-of-service (QoS) can be achieved for high priority traffic.
