Abstract
In this communication, the authors consider the application of maximum-likelihood (ML) symbol-by-symbol postprocessing for digital limiter-discriminator-integrator (LDI) detectors operating at an appropriately chosen intermediate frequency. This ML processing is derived by setting out from the max-log approach. The developed detector is tailored for use in Bluetooth or DECT receivers. It is shown that the novel detector improves the error performance, which can be obtained with regular LDI based receivers, considerably.
