Abstract
We present a design environment for microwave components that contain artificial materials with simultaneous negative permittivity and permeability. We have developed a full-wave electrodynamic field modeling environment based on the Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) method that enshies virtual prototyping and wideband charaeterization using realistic waveforms, topologies, and boundaries. The central innovative element is a modified TLM cell that has the same properties as the elementary cell of actual realizable metamaterials. To validate this modeling paradigm we have not only confirmed previously published theoretical predictions and experiments, but we have also virtually prototyped several novel components that defy conventional engineering notions.
