  • Abstract
    The transmission of real-time multimedia data streams requires efficient buffer control and lost control mechanisms. The buffer control protocol is used to handle packet delay by controlling the number of packets in the receiver s buffer. Whilst the lost control protocol is used to handle packet loss by monitoring the history of packet loss. These results are then used to determine the most appropriate multimedia quality presented at the receiver´s side in terms of compression ratio and sampling rate of multimedia data for a certain network condition by exchanging some negotiation messages between senders and receivers. This paper focuses on an adjustment mechanism with feedback from the receiver. It is based on both existing buffer control protocol and lost control protocol. The simulation results prove that the integration of these protocols can significantly improve the presentation quality of real-time multimedia in terms of suspended time and packet loss on a wide range of delay variations.
