Abstract
This paper examines variable QoS support in the recently standardized cdma2000 Revision D which provides high-speed packet data support over the reverse link (RL). Among the several medium access control (MAC) techniques defined by the standard, the paper considers two of the simpler techniques: common rate control (CRC) and dedicated rate control (DRC) given that initial 1xEV-DV deployments are likely to support only these techniques. A simple algorithm to provide differential throughput and delay performance (based on the user classes) for CRC and another for providing RL video streaming service (i.e., low jitter) to all simulated MS for DRC are discussed. Performance results show their effectiveness in supporting different QoS requirements.
