Abstract :
This research paper aims to give an overview of the design process of a database which, will be used to monitor the parameters of electrical performance statistics of an HVDC transmission system. Tools that can be used to monitor electrical performance are important in historical data analysis. Using such monitoring tools also facilitates comparisons of similar electrical systems around the world. Microsoft Access 2002 was used to design the database. The International Council on Large Electric Systems (Cigre) Study Committee 14, performance equations parameters are used for the calculations. All that is required of the user of this database is a basic understanding of the workings of windows software and some time in order to input the fault information into the database. The assessment results are used to compare the Cahora Bassa HVDC scheme to similar systems.
