Abstract
As bit rates increase, fiber chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) has been acknowledged as two main limitation factors in how far a signal can be transmitted without electronic regeneration. In this paper, 4times10 Gb/s 400 km G.652 fiber CD was successfully-compensated with cascaded chirped fiber gratings. Furthermore, the PMD was introduced into this system by PMD emulator, and the experiment on dynamic adaptive PMD compensation using the degree of polarization (DOP) as the feedback signal was demonstrated. The maximum compensated differential group delay (DGD) can be up to 100 ps, and the response time is lower than 50 ms. When BER is 10-10, the power penalty of transmission in each channel is less than 2 dB
