Abstract
A series of trilayers with the structure of FePt/Ru/Fe is prepared at room temperature and post-annealed at 600°C for 30 minutes in vacuum. The structure of FePt films and the hysteresis curves of the multilayers are examined by X-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements, respectively. A strong exchange coupling between FePt and Fe layers through an Ru spacer layer is observed. The coercivity of the multilayer is higher than that without Ru spacer which suggests that the coercivity of the FePt/Fe multilayer can be improved by Ru interlayer with proper thickness.
