Abstract
Microstructured fibers have brought about new possibilities for creating novel coherent light sources. We discuss generation of supercontinuum radiation in these fibers when the optical nonlinearity in the medium is pumped with short mode-locked and Q-switched laser pulses. Characteristics of the different approaches as well as choice of the optical parameters of the fiber are treated.
