Abstract :
In this paper the broadband diamond dipole antenna performance above an electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure composed of an array of square metallic patches without any via over a PEC backed dielectric substrate is investigated. A bandwidth of 2.5:1, 4.9 GHz to 12.2 GHz is achieved for S11; however the radiation pattern degrades above 7 GHz. The gain of the antenna is more than 6 dB over the 3.8 to 6.8 GHz range.
