Abstract
Capacity and coverage calculations of a UMTS radio network require realistic values for the orthogonality factors as well as for the multipath gain. Assuming an ideal RAKE receiver and a WSSUS channel model, the signal-to-interference-plus-noise power ratio (SINR) after RAKE combining is calculated. The SINR is determined in two different ways: analytically, based on simplifying assumptions; numerically, by link level simulations on a slot-by-slot basis. Comprehensive numerical investigations were carried out based on WSSUS models extracted from channel sounder measurements in Hanover and Munich. Numerical results of the link level simulations and of the analytical expression are compared and analysed.
