Abstract
In this paper, the performances of the radio link protocol (RLP) are studied. The transmissions on both forward and reverse channel are assumed to experience Markovian errors. The throughput and the delay are evaluated for different retransmission strategies and different error environments (rate and correlation). The trade-off between throughput, residual FER and delay is reflected by the tradeoff between maximum number of retransmissions and number of trials allowed in the scheme. The optimal solution is to use the incremental RLP (1, 2, 3, ..., n) since it achieves a maximum number of retransmission within a shorter amount of time.
