Abstract :
This paper presents a contention adaption mechanism to improve the performance of the standard IEEE 802.11e EDCA. By only introducing two parameters, the proposed scheme could reduce the contention in the standard EDCA when traffic load is heavy. Because contention is reduced, the transmission delay and energy consumption are reduced as well. Performance in the standard EDCA, thus, is improved. The proposed scheme is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.11e EDCA. Based on intensive simulation, results show that the proposed scheme could reduce the average energy consumption significantly. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is simple and should be easy to implement. It is both effective and practical.
