Abstract
Continuous phase modulation signals can be approximated by single amplitude modulated pulse (AMP) based upon Laurent representation. This approximation significantly reduces the complexity of MLSD. Self-interference of the AMP would reduce the minimum Euclidean distance of this simplified receiver. In this paper, we give a method to estimate the performance of this reduced complexity receiver. Given the phase response, the performance degradation of the simplified coherent CPM receiver could be predicted. Comparisons are made between prediction and numerical results for several CPM schemes.
