Abstract
In this paper, genetic algorithm is used to design 2D octagonal symmetric IIR filters. The transfer function has nonseparable numerator and separable denominator polynomials in z1 and z2, and the designed filters have canonical signed-digit (CSD) coefficients. A new CSD number restoration technique is presented to ensure that the algorithm generates CSD coefficients with the pre-specified wordlength and maximum number of nonzero digits.
