Abstract
Although the role of motivation in UK military training has long been noted as important to its success, it is argued that it is only since the late 1990s that attempts have been made formally to integrate this subject within instructional design theory and there has been any significant prospect of it materially affecting the design of training on a routine and comprehensive basis. This paper explores some of the reasons why this was so and why this is changing, using a case study of an application in training technology which was developed, at least in part, explicitly to address this neglected aspect of instructional design.
