Abstract
A joint transmitter and receiver optimization algorithm for MIMO channel shortening is provided. Using a frequency domain approach, we demonstrate that the optimum transmitter becomes a space-frequency water filling scheme, while the combined transmitter and the receiver performs channel shortening. The design involves optimization of the transmitter and the receiver filters together with the target impulse response. We also address the relationship between this joint transceiver design and a broadband beamformer with time domain constraints on the multipath length.
