Abstract
Spectrally efficient QPSK self-homodyne detection using a pilot-carrier at 20 Gbit/s was successfully demonstrated. Error-free operation (log(BER) < -9) was confirmed at a spectral efficiency beyond 1 bit/s/Hz without using an optical phase-locked loop.
