Abstract
The Electronic Design Interchange Format (EDIF) allows tools at all levels of the design process to exchange data. This paper describes an efficient method for reading incremental, hierarchical EDIF and the issues involved. The approach taken allows the data to drive the interpretation process by attaching functions to the EDIF keywords. The key to this approach is the representation and interpretation of the EDIF keyword semantics.
