Abstract
Scientific research and development of CAD tools for electronic applications started in the Russian universities and institutes in the early 1970s. Since then, many specialized software tools (including graphic and textual design entry, different types of simulators and verifiers, logic, test, and layout synthesis, and so on) and several fully-integrated CAD systems have been developed. For each University, this paper describes the mathematical methods and algorithms used in the development of the CAD tools, and an overview of the completed software tools and integrated CAD systems. Finally, this paper discusses new prospects involving Russian scientists in international projects on design automation.
