Abstract
The target of this paper is to show the optimal base station antenna height and downtilt for a novel network layout, and to compare the performance of the novel network layout to a traditional layout. The optimum performance is derived by analyzing the maximum cell area which provides the minimum service probability over the analysis area. The results of the simulation campaign show that a novel network layout (modified hexagonal grid) provides equal or even slightly better performance than the nominal layout. Moreover, the obtained results define the optimal base station antenna height and downtilt in order to maximize base station coverage area with required service probability
