Abstract
Standard symbolical representation of DNA sequence has definite advantages in data storage, search and retrieval over the Internet, but limits the methodology of handling and processing genomic information to pattern matching. In this paper, with hypercomplex number encoding, we propose an approach of using the mathematical operation of hypercomplex cross-correlation to do DNA consensus sequence matching. We present the results of scanning H. sapiens H4/g gene for potential TATA box by this approach. The results show that the proposed method is efficient, sensitive, and being able to provide more information than conventional string match method.
