Abstract
The purpose of the sensor tasking and control module (STACM) is to task the sensors to gather data of sufficient quality to support situational awareness and the automated systems on board a ship given the resources available. There will be situations when tasking of the sensors will not provide any additional benefit, but when there is not sufficient information or quality of information or clarity then an improvement would be expected through tasking of the sensors. In these situations sensor tasking to provide supplementary information or faster detect, track and identification will ensure the best use of the sensors to give maximum support to the command.
